Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna

Rabbi Eliyahu ben Shlomo Zalman (1720–1797), the Vilna Gaon, was one of history's foremost Talmudic authorities and the leading figure of the "Mitnagdim". He was also learned in the secular sciences. He is buried in Vilnius.
